Tivoli, acque albule and their history
This water is famous since the ancient times, giving pleasure to the body of the famous people of the past.

According to Pliny the Elder, Tivoli was the location where the soldiers arrived after been injured in war, to be treated by that good water and by the doctor Archigene da Apamea. Virgilio told about its effects in his Aeneid's, Nero pretended the water to be in his Domus Aurea by the Acquedotto Marcio, and emperor Hadrian filled his swimming pools with this water in Villa Adriana near Tivoli. The first person who had the idea to create an establishment where to take advantage of this water was Cesare Augusto, after having discovered the positive effects it gave, and so encharged his general Marco Vipsanio Agrippa to build the first thermal baths.

After the end of the Roman Western Empire, the Agrippa baths got abandoned for about a millennium, and only during the Renaissance, cardinal De la Cueva restored the channel of water, followed by cardinal Ippolito d'Este, Tivoli Governor.
In 1700, Bagni di Tivoli became even more popular thanks to the chemical analysis on the water and the scientific confirmation of it's curative properties. In 1820, they found the remains of the imperial baths, and in 1880, the first thermal establishment of modern times was built, thanks to the doctors Galassi and Baccelli and thanks to the City of Tivoli donations, by Pope Pio IX.
The modern establishment, designed by engineer Anderloni, is situated in the same place where the current building is, the most important thermal pole in Italy.
